Booking the Big Stage | with Jered Johnson
On the latest episode of Behind the Business, Founders in the 605, Marcus Mahlen sits down with Jered Johnson, founder and CEO of Pepper Entertainment, an entertainment agency that promotes and produces live concerts nationwide with a heavy focus throughout the Midwest, Great Lakes, Southeast, Mountain West/Southwest regions of the United States.
Originally from Spearfish, South Dakota, Jered played college baseball, hoping to play in the MLB one day. After a back injury and a few moves to different schools, after graduation, he decided his time playing baseball was over and decided to go to law school. After law school, Jered was working in advertising at Gannett when a friend asked him for help booking shows at a new small venue in Sioux Falls. As a life-long music lover, Jered quickly found a new passion in the entertainment and concert marketing industry, which led him to creating Pepper Entertainment.
As he explains in this episode, Jered carved out his own niche in the Sioux Falls market, learning the industry from the ground up and developing practices that would help shape his business. Twenty years later, that early groundwork has helped him become one of the nation’s leading independent concert promoters.
