The Power of Business Partnerships (and Waffles) | with Bobbi Thury and Jayna Voss
On the latest episode of Behind the Business, Founders in the 605, Marcus and Alexis Mahlen sit down with Bobbi Thury and Jayna Voss of Legacy Law Firm and Maker’s Exchange.
Both raised on South Dakota farms, attorneys Jayna Voss and Bobbi Thury met as coworkers at a law firm before deciding to join forces and open their own firm in 2016. Legacy Law Firm serves clients in estate planning, elder law, and business planning.
The two discuss the hurdles they learned to navigate upon opening their law firm: learning how to run business operations, how to market a new business and build a client base, and working long hours even when it meant sacrificing time with family.
Jayna and Bobbi expanded their business partnership in 2024 when they opened Maker’s Exchange together. This is a gathering place in Tea, South Dakota with 100+ independently owned local businesses. Shoppers can shop local goods, while eating Maker’s Exchange’s signature waffles and sipping artisan coffee.
In this episode, the two explain how they built Legacy Law Firm’s culture to be different than other competitors in the industry and their plans to scale both businesses in the future.
